Jean M Hanzel

Jean M Hanzel, 96, passed away April 24, 2023 surrounded by her loving family.  She was born in Dayton, Ohio to Harold and Juanita (nee Wood) Heilig and graduated from Miami Valley Hospital School of Nursing.  She worked as a Registered Nurse and was a long-time parishioner of St. Francis deSales Catholic Church.

Preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Frank Hanzel M.D., she is survived by daughters, Marcia (Dr. Ben) Pearson DVM, Marilyn (Michael) Taffe, Melissa (Tim) Midura, son, Bruce (Kathy) Hanzel, grandchildren, Jeanne, Janna, Benjamin III, Derek, Colt, Rudolph, Grace, and Bruce’s stepchildren Gregory and Lisa and their families, and twelve great grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 1 at 11 a.m. at St. Francis deSales Catholic Church.  Interment will immediately follow at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio.  Family and friends will be received on Sunday, April 30 from 5 p.m .– 8 p.m. at House of Eberhardt Funeral Home, 472 W Turkeyfoot Lk Rd. (Rt. 619) Portage Lakes.

In lieu of flowers, if so desired, memorial donations may be made to St. Francis Parish Education Endowment in care of St. Francis deSales  Parish, 4019 Manchester Rd., Akron, OH 44319.
