Nicholas Nero Jr. Obituary

Our patriarch and patriot died peacefully surrounded by family, as he had wished, at LifeCare Hospice in Wooster. Born in Cleveland to Beatrice and Nicholas Nero, Sr. Nick grew up on the family farm in Brecksville. A naval aviator and a Colonel in the Army Reserves, he loved his country and displayed the flag at every opportunity.

Nick was elected one of the youngest Ohio State Senators while a political science major at Kent State University. He married Nancy Darmstatter of Brecksville, raised seven children; later divorced. He married Maureen Keegan and had one last child.

As a realtor and broker, Nick built, bought and sold many homes, farms and properties. He lived most of life in Ohio (Brecksville, Peninsula, Richfield and West Salem) with brief periods in the West. He loved to travel and encouraged everyone he knew to “call in well, go for a drive in the country or get on a plane and go!”

Preceeded in death by parents Beatrice and Nick, Sr, brothers Bill and Chuck, sisters Mary Jean, Norene and Therese. He is survived by brother Tom (Pat), wife of nearly 50 years, Maureen, children John Maynier (step son), Cheryl, Kim, Cindy White (John), Nick III (Doug Wortham), Wendy (Ute Baier), Julia, Anna Fink (Ryan), Grandchildren Alissa Gross (Adam), Laura, Joseph, Jonathan, Esther, Hannah, Cora, Martin, and Great Grandchildren Audrey, Everly, and baby girl Gross due in November, and dozens of dear nieces, nephews and friends. This huge, affectionate family was his greatest pride and joy, and we are grateful for the many wonderful people who loved, supported and cared for our beloved Nick. He welcomed all, loved openly and deeply, and prayed fervently for every need presented. In lieu of flowers, please support any local charity serving food for the hungry, LifeCare Hospice in Wooster or online to thecovewaco.org/donate, an organization helping homeless high school kids.

A celebratory mass will be held Sat. Sept. 22 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Wooster, followed by a brief military burial in Rittman.
